Alpine World Ski Championships set to begin in Vail Valley

For the first time in 16 years, the Alpine World Ski Championships are back at Vail and Beaver Creek, with events and concerts beginning Monday.

It’s the third time Vail is hosting the event; 1989 and 1999 were the others.

The two-week event will feature competitors from 70 countries, including locals Lindsey Vonn, the winningest woman in World Cup history, and Mikaela Shiffrin, the Olympic and world slalom champion.
